Story of Madeira

The story of Madeira is a new visitor attraction.

Dr Anne and JD really enjoyed the interactive experience and see possibilities for the Salmon Bothy in Portsoy.

Hogmanay, 2013

Last night, there was a beautiful sunset.  We viewed it from the balcony.

This morning the boats are coming in for the firework display. The day promises to be exciting.

The boats are in the bay at the moment.  There are eight liners in total.

Back to the Ritz Bar

Dr Anne and JD have taken up residency at the Ritz Bar.

Tonight they had a couple of glasses of Madeira as they watched the world go by.

They are intrigued by the toadstools…

The view from the hills was brilliant today.

Orchid Gardens

200 metres downhill from the Botanical Gardens are the Orchid Gardens.

The family moved to Madeira in the 90s and set up the orchid garden.

Awesome…

Jardim Botanica

On the tick list for Funchal was the Botanical Gardens.
The sun was shining beautifully today so Dr Anne and JD jumped on the yellow bus.
They had an amazing day.

These were all at the Botanical Gardens.

At the Botanical Gardens.

Dr Anne and JD watched the preparations for Hogmanay.

2013 will become 2014.

Preparing the fireworks.

29 December

Dr Anne and JD headed off around the sea coast.  There were two cruise liners in the harbour so lots of people around.  They went along the length of the lido then went back to Reids for a sandwich and coffee.  There were people from the cruise liner in for afternoon tea.

Dr Anne and JD headed for the English to a concert of arias and songs from shows.  It was a truly professional performance to be long remembered.  JD said 'Awesome'.

28 December

Dr Anne and JD headed for the night life.

They have take to heading to The Ritz Bar in town for a glass of something.

There was lots of street entertainment.

They particularly enjoyed the jazz band.

They did of course do a tour of the lights.  Are there any that they have missed?

The lights are just totally amazing……….

Second Saturday

Today was a beautiful day.

Dr Anne and JD went in a taxi to Nun's Valley.

The scenery was amazing.

There was an amazing nativity scene.  It depicted the culture and industry of Madeira.

The bee keeping.

The Church.

The nativity.

They then drove down to Camara De Lobos with its beautiful harbour and banana plantations.
